Qinghai Province boasts a robust blend of Han, Tibetans, Hui, Tu, Mongol, and Salars, a rich, colorful history, and breathtaking scenery. In addition to the largest saltwater lake in China, for which the province itself is named, Qinghai is also home to the headwaters of the Huang He, Yangtze, and Mekong rivers, and several large mountain ranges. Many residents still farm on the land that has been in their family for generations. With 37 minority tribes , and dozens of languages, this incredibly diverse region is certainly worth a visit. We choice the area at Qinghai Lake and Kanbula Forest Park, Full with perfect landscape and minority colors.

Our hotel in XiNing provides high quality meals. Further out into the country, we will be visiting more local restaurants. Western food is not readily available in this area, so while we can provide some Western comfort (bacon, cereal, etc.) to complement Chinese breakfasts, expect to be served more traditional dishes for lunch and dinner.
Trips start and end in XiNing, and the accommodation here is what you can expect from any other modern Chinese city. The bulk of our trip, however, will be spent in more rural areas, and, like the food, accommodation here is more basic. As always, we endeavor to find hotels that meet our standards for cleanliness, and what they may lack in luxury and modern comforts, they make up for with beautiful, pastoral landscapes and local flair.
In both May and September, the temperature for the area surrounding XiNing is quite cool, with lows between 4-8°C and highs generally around 20°C. Conditions vary, though some rain should be expected.
